Dr Andrew McMeekin

Andrew McMeekin has been a Research Fellow at the ESRC Centre for Research on Innovation and Competition (CRIC) since it was established in 1997. Previously, he has worked and studied at Manchester School of Management, UMIST, and the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at Sussex University.

His research has focused on social and economic aspects of the organisation and management of technological innovation and on government science and technology policy. This research has involved interaction with technical directors from many of the UK's largest high technology firms, policy makers and a number of non-governmental organisations. He has recently participated in several projects for the UK Department of Trade and Industry and the ESRC on developments in e-commerce and biotechnology.

Current research includes:

• Developments in biotechnology, genomics and bioinformatics with a particular focus on the agrofood sector.
• The creation and institutionalisation of markets for market research.
• Distributed innovation processes and the uneven growth of medical knowledge.
• The interfaces and spaces between innovation, demand and consumption.

I am interested in supervising PhD topics that relate to my research interests, especially:

• The economic sociology of technology and innovation
• Public-private interaction in knowledge production and innovation
• The relationship between innovation, demand and consumption
• The dynamics of innovation in medicine, genomics and biotechnology
• Environmental sustainability and the emerging bio-economy
