and CRIC/University of Manchester.

This Workshop will explore the latest thinking on the process of innovation and apply it to the formulation of innovation policies with special references to the Brazilian Economy. In the past two decades there have been many important developments in science, technology and innovation policies in the advanced countries. These developments in the formulation and implementation of policy have important implications for rapidly developing economies such as Brazil.

The major themes of the workshop will include:

  1. Innovation and Adaptive Processes in Relation to (competition and collaboration) Distributed Systems of Innovation;
  2. Distributed Innovation Processes and Local Perspectives on Innovation Systems;
  3. Intellectual Property Issues in Rapidly Developing Economies and the implications for the Evolution of Innovation Policies;
  4. Lessons from the Foresight process and the connection with Innovation Policies;
  5. Innovation Policy and Emerging Areas of Technology: Biotechnology and bio-informatics and Information Technology (ICT);
  6. Markets for information and the implications for Innovation policy.

The Workshop intends to bring together leading academics from Brazil and Europe, together with Brazilian policy makers in the field of Innovation and Science and Technology Policies.
